Attendance and completion have different meanings
A sign-in sheet shows attendance at a particular offering. It does not by itself establish that the member met the course’s completion requirements. Define the outcome evidence before delivery, including any assessment, certificate or permitted equivalent. This lets staff explain incomplete results without changing the definition after the event.
Preserve the requirements a member enrolled against
Programs evolve as steward responsibilities and course material change. Keep course and program versions identifiable so old completion evidence retains its meaning. When an equivalent course is accepted, record the evidence and reason under the permitted review path instead of simply marking every requirement complete.
UnionStack connects versioned course administration, offerings, cohorts, attendance outcomes and program progression. The practical test is whether a reviewer can reconstruct why a member’s program is complete, incomplete or satisfied through an approved exception.
Keep appointment authority separate
A completed training program can inform an appointment process without becoming the appointment itself. The organization still needs the authorized leadership or position record and its dates. A course certificate is also distinct from a separately maintained People credential and from event registration.
Use a sample member who completes an older course version, receives an approved equivalency and later takes office. Review each fact independently. That scenario reveals more than a count of course attendees.
