Why a union member database needs relationships

See how people, positions, organizations and effective history turn a contact list into an operational record system.

The member record is contextual

A person may hold several positions, work under an agreement, participate in a case and appear in leadership or meeting records. Copying those facts into separate databases makes every change a reconciliation problem.

A connected model lets each record own its facts while preserving navigation and effective history across the workflow.

Test movement, not only creation

Product demonstrations often create a clean member record. A stronger test changes the position, contact details or organizational relationship and then inspects the consequences.

  • Does the previous relationship remain understandable?
  • Do current reports use the intended effective record?
  • Can staff distinguish a correction from a real change?
  • Are duplicate review and merge governed?

Protect usefulness and restraint

More data is not automatically better. Define the minimum information needed for each workflow, name its authoritative source and restrict sensitive fields to the people responsible for using them.

This combination of relationships, history, ownership and access is what makes a membership platform dependable over time.
